Ozempic and Wegovy contain the same active ingredient but are approved for different uses. For weight loss without diabetes, Wegovy or Mounjaro may therefore be considered.
Clinical trial results
In the approval trials, adults with obesity or overweight lost considerably more weight on average than those receiving placebo over 68 or 72 weeks.

Both trials included a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity. Your individual progress may differ. Many people regain weight after stopping treatment: in the STEP 1 extension, around two-thirds of the lost weight returned within a year. Nutritional counselling and a plan for the period after treatment are therefore part of the programme.
